EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — The City of East Providence Dept. of Public Works has announced that due to the Memorial Day holiday there will be no rubbish or yard waste collection on Monday, May 25, 2026. Monday’s rubbish and yard waste will be collected on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 and rubbish and yard waste collections for the remainder of the week will be delayed by one day. Residents are asked to have rubbish, recycling and yard waste containers at the curb by 6 a.m. for collection.

Bulky item collection remains the same, collection Friday, May, 29, 2026.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the City Council authorized the Mayor to enter into a contract with BETA Group Inc. for up to $117,000 to complete the Six Corners Supplemental Action Plan under the Safe Streets and Roads for All program. The project is fully funded by a $100,000 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation and the City’s already-committed $25,000 match, with no additional taxpayer funding required.

A meeting of the East Providence Planning Board pursuant to Article 12, Unified Development Review of the City of East Providence Land Development and Subdivision Review Regulations will be held in Room 306, City Hall, 145 Taunton Avenue, East Providence, Rhode Island, on Monday evening, June 8, 2026, at 6:00 P.M. The following application for Unified Development Review will be heard in accordance with Article 12 and Rhode Island General Law State Law 45-23-50.1.

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – On Saturday, May 16, 2026 the City of East Providence officially dedicated the playground at Grassy Plains Pars in honor of a beloved Riverside child, Blake Costa, who tragically lost his courageous fight with brain cancer in May of 2020.

Blake’s ability to bring people together through his fearless bravery and love for life has continued to have an impact throughout the East Providence community and throughout the state, making the decision to dedicate the parks playground in Blake’s memory an easy one.

On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the City Council authorized the Mayor to contract with Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. for engineering and project management services tied to the City’s USDOT SMART Grant project. The $229,225 contract, fully funded by the $549,770 federal grant, will upgrade traffic signals in the Warren Ave and Broadway area with advanced technology to ease congestion and improve traffic flow.

On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the City Council authorized the Mayor to enter into contracts with W. Walsh Company and Pawtucket Hot Mix Asphalt to finalize critical utility rehabilitation and roadway restoration along South Broadway and Martin Street. The $1,700,000 project, funded through reallocated capital funds, includes water main cleaning and lining as well as full paving. This investment significantly upgrades the city’s aging infrastructure and improves water quality and reliability for residents and businesses.
