East Providence Library receives grant to provide programs for LGBTQ+ residents

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – The East Providence Library is one of 14 organizations serving LGBTQ+ residents that will share $87,000 in grants through the Equity Action Fund at the Rhode Island Foundation. The funding will underwrite free teen and adult programs that combine education, artistry and social awareness in partnership with Haus of Glitter and Youth Pride Inc.

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The City of East Providence with the assistance of full-time, part-time and volunteers will be opening our temporary extreme weather overnight warming shelter, starting Wednesday, January 21st, through Sunday, January 25th pending both forecasts and volunteer availability.

The shelter will be located at the Robert E. Rock Senior Center at 610 Waterman Ave., East Providence and will be open from 7 PM to 7 AM, giving unhoused residents of the City, as well as those without heat an opportunity to take shelter and stay warm.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday rubbish schedule

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – The City of East Providence Dept. of Public Works has announced that due to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday there will be no rubbish collection on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026. Monday’s rubbish will be collected on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026 and rubbish collections for the remainder of the week will be delayed by one day.
Residents are asked to have rubbish containers at the curb by 6 A.M. for collection.
