ENTRY-LEVEL PATROL OFFICER

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Performs general police work protecting life and property, enforcing criminal and traffic laws and local ordinances, conducting investigations, and performing related work as required.
- Employment Benefits:
- Starting Patrol Salary - $64,246.78 (includes holiday pay)
- Top step patrolman salary after three years of service: $76,749.95 (including holidays)
- Military buyback of up to two years of prior military service
- Vested in pension system after only 10 (ten) years of service. Can begin to collect at age 60. Cola=2.5% non-compounding
- Blue Cross Blue Shield Medical Insurance (single and family)
- Delta Dental Coverage
- Paid Vacation Time starting at 16 days, increasing yearly after 10 years of service up to 28 days
- $1,500 Annual Clothing Allowance
- 13 Paid Holidays

- Annual Accreditation stipend (applicable once RIPAC accreditation is received)
- Longevity Pay (3%-9%, based on years of service 5-20)

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Must be 21 years of age by the end of the application period
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Must be a United States Citizen
- Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must have the ability to speak, read and write the English language
- Must have the ability to pass a physical examination given by a physician, a physical fitness/agility examination, a written examination, an oral examination, a swim proficiency test, a drug screen, a psychological examination given by a psychological test center, and a comprehensive background investigation
EXAMINATION WEIGHT
60% Written
40% Oral
The minimum passing score required on both examinations shall be 70 points.
Current resident candidates may receive one point for each consecutive year that such candidate has been a resident of the city up to a maximum of five points. Veteran candidates may receive four points or five points for a post-9/11 veteran candidate, up to a maximum of five points.

- Must have the ability to pass a physical examination given by a physician, a drug screen, a psychological examination given by a psychological test center, an oral examination and a comprehensive background investigation.
The following items MUST be submitted with your Application:
- P.O.S.T certificate or proof of active status as a Rhode Island police officer.
- A copy of your Driver's License
Oral Examination Process (schedule tbd)
Only those applicants meeting all application procedures and minimum requirements may be admitted to the oral examination process. The oral exam process will be 100% of the final examination score. There will be a minimum passing score of 70% on the oral exam.
Eligibility List
Candidates who pass the oral exam will have their names placed on an eligibility list in rank order of final examination scores, residency and veteran's points. Names shall remain on the eligibility list for a minimum of one year.
