Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday rubbish schedule

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – The City of East Providence Dept. of Public Works has announced that due to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday there will be no rubbish collection on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026. Monday’s rubbish will be collected on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026 and rubbish collections for the remainder of the week will be delayed by one day.
Residents are asked to have rubbish containers at the curb by 6 A.M. for collection.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – The East Providence Recreation Director, Diane Sullivan has announced her retirement after 43 years of service to the city.

Sullivan, who began her career in 1982 at the age of 18, started as a part-time recreation leader and quickly became a pivotal part of the recreation team. Sullivan would go on to become the arts and crafts director, before accepting a full-time position in 1987 as the Recreation Center Office Manager and just one year later she would be promoted to Recreation Center Coordinator.

WHEREAS, the year 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America, a milestone of profound historical and civic significance; and

WHEREAS, the City of East Providence seeks to commemorate this national SemiQuincentennial through inclusive, educational, and celebratory programming that reflects the City’s history, diversity, and civic values; promotes public understanding of the American experiment in self-government; and encourages community engagement and pride; and

A meeting of the Planning Board pursuant to Article 12 ‘Unified Development Review’ of the City of East Providence ‘Land Development and Subdivision Regulations’ will be held in Room 306, City Hall, 145 Taunton Avenue, East Providence, Rhode Island, on Monday evening, January 12, 2026, at 6:00 P.M. The following application for Unified Development Review will be heard in accordance with Article 12 and Rhode Island General Law State Law 45-23-50.1.
