RI Mosquito Update: A mosquito sample collected in East Providence on September 22 has tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). Last week, the Rhode Island Department of Health announced RI’s first probable human case of WNV this year. The current risk level for WNV remains high statewide. To date, no mosquito samples in RI this season have tested positive for EEE or Jamestown Canyon Virus (JCV).

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — The City of East Providence Dept. of Public Works has announced that due to the Labor Day Holiday on Monday, September 1, 2025 there will be no rubbish or yard waste collection. Monday’s rubbish and yard waste will be collected on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 and collections for the remainder of the week will be delayed by one day. Residents are asked to have containers at the curb by 6 a.m. for collection.

Bulky item collection remains the same, collection Friday, September 5, 2025.

Three new troll sculptures by internationally renowned recycle artist, Thomas Dambo, have arrived in Rhode Island, completing the “Rhode Island Troll Trail.” The new residents are Young Boulder who lives in Richmond at Browning Mill Pond in the Arcadia Management Area, Iver Mudslider who resides in North Kingstown’s Ryan Park and Mrs. Skipper who greets Bay travelers in East Providence.

Stay Out of the Water: Swimming, surfing, and other water activities are prohibited due to life-threatening rip currents and dangerous surf.

Stay Off the Coastline: Residents and visitors should avoid all shoreline areas, including rocky outcrops and jetties, as rogue waves can easily sweep people into the water.
