East Providence launches signing bonuses for new police recruits

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – Mayor Bob DaSilva and East Providence Police Chief Christopher Francesconi announced a new Police Officer Recruiting Bonus Program in hopes of continuing to make the department more competitive and to help recruit new officers.

The City of East Providence is offering a $5,000 bonus to new police applicants as an incentive to attract more interest.

"Recruiting new police officers has become increasingly challenging, leading to staffing shortages throughout law enforcement,” Chief Christopher Francesconi said. “The East Providence Police Department is committed to attracting individuals of the highest caliber to serve our community. This signing bonus is another effort to draw people to what is an incredibly rewarding career, providing them the opportunity to work alongside some of the very best police officers in our region."

New officers will receive their bonus in installments: $2,500 upon completion of their first year of service (the probation period), followed by $1,500 after two years of service, and an additional $1,000 after three years.

“Besides having very competitive wages, the best equipment, top-tier training for officers and a community that appreciates and supports our police we are still facing difficulties in finding qualified police applicants,” Mayor Bob DaSilva said. “We are now offering signing bonuses for new police recruit applicants in hopes of attracting quality candidates.”
