East Providence Police investigate the suspicious death of a dog

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – On January 25, East Providence Police started an investigation surrounding the suspicious circumstances of a deceased canine. A Lakeside Avenue resident told officers that his Husky, Niko, got loose during the morning of January 24th. Later that evening, Niko was located in the area of Forbes Street and Lunn Street with what appeared to be a minor injury to his head. Based on initial reports from the veterinarian, Niko was shot with a pellet or small caliber round.

Unfortunately, Niko passed from his injuries. The case is currently being investigated by the East Providence Police Detective Unit and East Providence Animal Control. Police are also looking for surveillance footage in the area of Forbes Street that could assist with the investigation. Please contact Detective Genevieve O’Connell at 401-435-7600 if you have any information regarding this incident.
