The mission of the East Providence Public Library is to provide equal access to a wide range of materials and services, to facilitate self-education and to promote lifelong learning. The East Providence Public Library is dedicated to the special interests of children and their caregivers encouraging a love of reading and learning. Emphasis is placed on supplying current reading materials in various formats, including emerging technology, and providing resources to improve quality of life. Programs on a variety of topics are offered in a welcoming, clean and safe environment for all.
The East Providence Library is a department of the City and reports to the Mayor and a seven-member Board of Trustees appointed by the City Council. The Board of Trustees sets the policies by which the Library is administered.
The library system consists of the main Weaver Library, the Riverside Branch Library, and the Anne Ide Fuller Creative Learning Center all offering the opportunity to connect to the world. Resources and services are provided to meet the educational, recreational and cultural needs of the entire community. Materials are available in various formats: print, electronic (books, magazines, movies, and audiobooks), CDs and DVDs. The Weaver Library also circulates 12 iPad Mini tablets preloaded with books. Hot spots for internet connection are also available for circulation.
Programs for all ages are scheduled throughout the year and an expanded technology area offers access to the Internet, computer instruction and various computer programs. A young adult area, children's room, information center and community services department combine to provide a vast array of programs and information for East Providence residents. Literacy and ESL classes are offered year-round by the library's full-time literacy coordinator.
