Check this page regularly to learn about ways you can get involved and shape the Comprehensive Plan.

Comprehensive Plans work best when they are written with the community. We want reach far and wide for everyone to be involved and we will be inclusive with our efforts through the update process. In the time of COVID-19, meeting in person and participating in the public process provides its challenges…but we’re up to meet that challenge! All public workshops, meetings, and events will planned around protecting our community’s public health and will be in line with Rhode Island’s current COVID-19 health and safety guidelines.

Join your neighbors to talk about the City's future! Come participate this fall in four topic-oriented public workshops to help us shape the comprehensive plan and have your voices heard on these important topics! The topics for each workshop include: (1) Housing and Equity/Public Health, (2) Historic/Cultural Resources and City Services, (3) Economic Development/Waterfront and Transportation/Connectivity, and (4) Recreation/Open Space and Natural Resources/Climate Change. After a welcome and short presentation, attendees will be randomly assigned to small groups for a facilitated discussion.

All workshops will be held at the East Providence Senior Center (610 Waterman Ave, East Providence) on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, September 28th from 6PM - 8PM: Housing and Equity/Public Health - SLIDES
  • Thursday, September 30th from 6PM - 8PM: Historic/Cultural Resources and City Services - SLIDES
  • Tuesday, October 5th from 6PM - 8PM: Economic Development/Waterfront and Transportation/Connectivity - SLIDES
  • Thursday, October 7th from 6PM - 8PM: Recreation/Open Space and Natural Resources/Climate Change - SLIDES

All attendees must wear a maks, regardless of vaccination status, to comply with the CDC and the City of East Providence's guidance on masking in public places.

If you would like a paper copy of the survey, you may request one from the Department of Planning and Economic Development.

Community Conversations

A Community Conversation brings neighbors and families together to discuss key questions and provide their viewpoints and experiences about East Providence. Because of the gathering restrictions to reduce the spread of COVID-19, we are unable to hold in-person public workshops and small group discussions at this time. However, many of us have smaller circles of people we see on a regular basis. Holding a Community Conversation gives us an opportunity to talk about issues important to East Providence and its future in a way that is safe. Community Conversations are meant to be safe and create a low-stress enviornment for everyone involved.

Purposes of a Community Conversation:

  • To encourage small group conversations about East Providence today and what East Providence should be in the future,
  • To identify the things about East Providence that are most important to residents,
  • To identify the things that are missing or could be improved to make East Providence a better place, and
  • To make this planning process more equitable and inclusive by making sure the voices of everyone in East Providence are heard.
