EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The City of East Providence is excited to celebrate safety this Saturday, September 12 at Grassy Plains Park. After recently cutting the ribbon on a new children’s traffic garden the city is hosting a community gathering where we will be distributing 150 free bike helmets to kids and adults, as well as partnering with RI Bike to teach our youngest residents the rules of the road.

WHAT: As part of the community day there will be several food vendors including Mike’s City Dogs and Del’s Lemonade. Funding for the new children’s traffic garden and the 150 helmets comes from a $5,000 Rhode Island Department of Health Streets Transformation Project Grant, which are used to fund community organizations and municipality demonstration projects, active transportation choices, and safer street designs for families and children.
