LATERAL PATROL OFFICER
Salary Range $76,749.55 - $85,091.61(Dependent on years of P.O.S.T. service)

School Resource Officers, Crisis Negotiation Team, Special Reaction Team, Vice Investigation Unit, Honor Guard, Traffic Unit, Prosecution Unit, Community Relation Unit, Major Crime Detective Unit, Juvenile Crime Detective Unit, Bureau of Criminal Identification Unit, Federal and State Task Force Assignments
Recruitment Period - January 15, 2023-December 31, 2023
Performs general police work protecting life and property, enforcing criminal and traffic laws and local ordinances, conducting investigations, and performing related work as required.

- Starting Patrol Salary - $76,749.55 (includes holiday pay)
- 11/1/23 (4% increase) $79,819.53 (includes holiday pay)
- 11/1/24 (3.5% increase) $82,613.22 (includes holiday pay)
- 11/1/24 Five-year patrol officer with 3% retention stipend $85,091.61 (incl. salary and holidays)
- Military buyback of up to two years of prior military service
- Vested in the pension system after only 10 (ten) years of service. Can begin to collect at age 60. Cola=2.5% non-compounding

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Must be an active P.O.S.T. certified police officer in the State of Rhode Island
- Must be 21 years of age by the end of the application period
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Must be a United States Citizen
- Must have the ability to speak, read and write the English language
- Must have the ability to pass a physical examination given by a physician, a drug screen, a psychological examination given by a psychological test center, an oral examination and a comprehensive background investigation

- Only those applicants meeting all application procedures and minimum requirements may be admitted to the oral examination process. The oral exam process will be 100% of the final examination score. There will be a minimum passing score of 70% on the oral exam.
- Eligibility List
- Candidates who pass the oral exam will have their names placed on an eligibility list in rank order of final examination scores, residency and veteran's points. Names shall remain on the eligibility list for a minimum of one year.
