Perform skilled firefighting work in combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires; in rendering medical assistance at medical and other emergency scenes; and in operating and maintaining Fire Department equipment, apparatus, and work environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY:
Must be at least 21 years of age by the completion of the Fire Academy (April 2022)
Must be a United States Citizen, and furnish a birth certificate or certificate of naturalization.
Must possess and furnish a copy of valid driver’s license.
Must possess a High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
Successful completion of the Rhode Island Association of Fire Chiefs Physical Performance Assessment (PPA) (PPA certifications obtained within one year of the application end date will be accepted).
Must be able to obtain Rhode Island Emergency Medical Technician Basic Certification while attending the East Providence Fire Academy.

60% Written
40% Oral
The minimum passing score required on both examinations shall be 70 points.
Current resident candidates may receive one point for each consecutive year that such candidate has been a resident of the city up to a maximum of five points. Veteran-candidates may receive four points or five points for a post-9/11 veteran-candidate, up to a maximum of five points.
