East Providence police investigating fatal pedestrian crash

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – On December 8, 2020, at approximately 5 p.m. East Providence police responded to reports of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle on Pawtucket Avenue, in the vicinity of Silver Spring Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers located a pedestrian in the roadway suffering from serious injuries. Officers began life-saving procedures, which were continued by the East Providence Fire Department. The pedestrian, identified as 71-year-old East Providence resident Jose Rodrigues, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The operator of the striking vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with police. The East Providence Police Traffic Unit is conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash.

At this time, no further information will be released.
