Salary: $120,000 - $130,000
Salary commensurate with experience

Job Description: Under the direction of the Mayor, the Director of Information Technology oversees the operations of the Information Technology (IT) Department by planning, organizing, and ensuring the efficient and effective execution of IT priorities. The Director of Information Technology manages a team of IT technicians and systems managers, and focuses on operations, system uptime, cybersecurity, and the development, implementation, and evaluation of software and hardware. As a member of the senior management team, the Director of Information Technology provides support and strategic leadership to other senior-level managers and leads the City’s efforts to continually improve and enhance technology and cybersecurity services and safety concerns.  

General Responsibilities:

  • Managing and maintaining the Information Technology budget.
  • Directing the ongoing everyday activities of the current IT staff.
  • Overseeing cybersecurity efforts to safeguard the City.
  • Prioritizing the information technology needs of the City.   
  • Procuring and managing grants and awards related to technology.
  • Directing the efforts of IT staff members in the repair, maintenance, and deployment of information technology assets.
  • Sustaining network and platform security by implementing, enforcing, and maintaining those platforms.
  • Scanning, patching, and updating of existing hardware and software.
  • Documenting configuration and operation of critical information assets.
  • Developing or enhancing information technology policies and procedures.
  • Planning and execution of applicable information asset testing.
  • Identifying technology needs and recommending new technology adoption as needed. 
  • Monitoring of all information asset usage and operation.
  • Maintaining financial obligations related to software and hardware licensing, vendor, and contract related expenses.
  • Creating, defining, and maintaining short and long-term technology plans.
  • Coordinating credentialling and security of technology for all employees. 
  • Evaluating IT compliance to current and future laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Ensuring the secure operation of computer systems, servers, and network connections.
  • Overseeing design and planning, as well as handling networking issues.
  • Training and mentoring junior information technology personnel.
  • Coordinating with vendors and professional networks to evaluate and plan projects.
  • Performing all such other duties as reasonably necessary or assigned by the Mayor.

Desirable Abilities, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Knowledge of information technology operations and practices related to hardware management, servers, storage, networking, and security.
  • Understanding of financial accounting and reporting and the ability to read financial statements.
  • Ability to assess the current and future needs of the IT infrastructure and possess strategic planning skills necessary to identify, evaluate, and implement innovative technology.
  • Ability to plan and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • An understanding of laws and regulations related to cybersecurity and data privacy.
  • Experience working with vendors and negotiating contracts and agreements.
  • Experience managing a Microsoft Office 365 environment.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, coach, counsel, and train staff.
  • Experience working in a municipal government, state agency, or other government entity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as IT Director or similar role preferred.
  • A bachelor's degree in information technology, management information systems, or a related field (master’s degree preferred), or equivalent training and experience. (Professional certificates or licenses in specific technology preferred.) 
  • Five (5) or more years’ experience working with medium to large IP networks, information technology organizational operational concepts, and project management. 
  • Professional experience in a high-level leadership role.
