Council Notice of Public Hearing - Single Familly Attached Dwelling Units

Notice is hereby given that a public hearing will be held by the East Providence City Council at East Providence City Hall, 145 Taunton Avenue, East Providence, RI, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at 6:30PM to amend the City Code of Ordinances – Chapter 19 Zoning Ordinance.

Proposed changes to Chapter 19 Zoning Ordinance include the following:

Consideration of proposed amendments to the City of East Providence Zoning Ordinance submitted by Attorney Dylan Conley representing Jacavone Investment Corp. & Elevator Properties, Inc. The application proposes amending the Zoning Ordinance to permit “Attached Single Family Dwellings” (as defined in Rhode Island General Law Section 45-24-33(a)(26)). State law requires that municipalities permit Attached Single Family Dwellings in residential zones wherever duplexes and/or multi-family residences are already allowed and to allow creation of separate lots for each dwelling unit regardless of various setback requirements and other dimensional requirements of the original underlying lot. This application proposes allowing Attached Single Family Dwellings in both residential and commercial districts wherever duplexes and/or multi-family residences are already allowed

Specifically, the following sections of Chapter 19 Zoning will be amended, altered, changed or created:

• Article IV, Supplementary Regulations – add new Section 19-360.12 for Single Family Attached Dwellings.

Anyone wishing to be heard on the proposed matter should be present at the aforementioned date and time. At the public hearing, opportunity shall be given to all persons interested to be heard upon the matter of the proposed amendments. The amendments in their entirety are available on the City’s website at https://eastprovidenceri.gov/departments/planning-economic-development. The proposed amendments may be altered or amended prior to the close of the public hearing without further advertising as a result of further study or because of the views expressed at the public hearing.
