Carnival License and Carousel Program Information

CARNIVAL LICENSE AND CAROUSEL PROGRAM

INFORMATION FOR AN APPLYING FOR A CARNIVAL LICENSE AND CAROUSEL PROGRAM

Please note:

Carnival License: No person shall engage in the operation of a carnival without first obtaining a license from the city clerk, after approval of the City Council.

1. The applicant must post a cleanup bond in the amount of $1,000 (cash or check). The bond will be returned when the Department of Public Works Director inspects the grounds after the carnival and grants approval;

2. Notify the Office of the City Clerk of the date, time and place of the proposed carnival;

3. Provide the Office of the City Clerk with the name of the company hosting the carnival and attach a copy of their insurance policy;

4. Additional approval must be obtained from the Rhode Island Department of Health;

5. Separate permit is needed from the Building Inspector’s Office;

6. Other approvals needed:

A) Chief of Police

B) Fire Marshal

C) Building Inspector

D) Electrical Inspector

E) Board of Licensing Commissioners

7. The company hosting the carnival must also notify the State Building Code Commission if having mechanical rides;

8. Promoters Permit from the Rhode Island Division of Taxation is required.

Fee: $50/day

Carousel Programs: Waived

This program still requires approvals from the following:

1. Chief of Police

2. Fire Marshal

3. Building Inspector

4. Electrical Inspector

5. Board of Licensing Commissioners
