The mission of the East Providence Recreation Department is to provide recreation, fitness, special events, and wellness programs to residents of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. In addition to promoting healthy lifestyles, the department strives to foster an appreciation for the City's green spaces, the environment at large and the arts. The East Providence Recreation Department is committed to enhancing the quality of life for members of the community.
The East Providence Recreation Department provides year-round programming to the community. Programs include activities for pre-school, youth, adults and the physically and mentally challenged. The Recreation Center houses a weight room, game room and programming facilities.
The Department coordinates the City's Independence Day Celebration, Dolly Searle Golf Tourament, Dolly Searle Student Scholarship, Concerts in the Park, the Summer Food Service Program, Turkey Trot 5K Road Race, summer and school vacation camps, and the annual WinterFest Celebration.
Recreation oversees billing and payments and the permit allocation system for the City's more than 60 parks, playgrounds and athletic facilities. Recreation works closely with the Department of Public Work's Parks Division by providing frequent permit updates, enabling the Parks Division to adjust maintenance schedules accordingly so facilities are prepared for user groups.
The administrative offices and indoor recreational activities of the Recreation Department are located within the East Providence Senior Center at 610 Waterman Ave.
