The mission of the East Providence Probate Court is to administer justice in a fair, timely and professional manner to all people who appear before the Court.
The Probate Court Judge and Associate Probate Court Judge are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the City Council. The City Clerk serves as the Probate Clerk, and is appointed by the City Council. File and docket processing is delegated to a municipal clerk.
The Probate Court is focused on efficiently processing all matters relating to the administration of decedents' estates, certain trusts, guardianships, adoption of adults, conservatorships and name changes.
Probate Court is a court of law established by RIGL 8-9; the operating statute for Probate is RIGL Title 33.
Probate Court hearings are held in the City Council Chambers located on the 1st floor of City Hall and held on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 2 p.m.
The Probate Court department is housed within the Office of the City Clerk.
