Save the Bay - International Coastal Cleanup Event

International Coastal Cleanup Program

Save the Bay is the State coordinator for the International Coastal Cleanup in Rhode Island.

The International Coastal Cleanup is a global event organized by the Ocean Conservancy where we not only clean up the shores, we record what we find on data sheets or with the Clean Swell app. The "big day" for the event is Saturday, September 17, but ICC cleanups can happen any time from August-November.

We've got a few planned for East Providence

  • Crescent View Causeway East Providence Saturday, September 10 1-3 pm (this is organized in partnership with Cathy Vieira Baker and Riverside Renaissance, Approximate address is 111 Crescent View Ave, Riverside, RI 02915)
  • Bold Point East Providence Sunday, September 11, 10-12 PM
  • Crescent Beach East Providence Saturday, September 24 10 AM-12 PM
  • Sabin Point East Providence Sunday, October 9, 1-3 PM

Anyone and everyone is invited to participate in the International Coastal Cleanup!  An ICC cleanup is like a regular cleanup, except volunteers pair up and record the types of trash they are picking up (plastic bottle, cigarette butt, fishing line, wrapper etc.) as they go, using data cards or the Clean Swell App.  If you are interested in this cleanup program, July Lewis of Save The Bay will provide instruction, supplies, data cards and pencils.
