Be inspired to know what people can do when they don't focus on what they can't do.
Enjoy learning about people who accomplished remarkable things in spite of obstacles in their paths - not from deafness - but from a misunderstanding of deafness and Deaf people.
This talk will be held by Manuel Martin. In 2001, Manuel began teaching college classes at URI, adapting the curriculum I had written. In the ensuing years, I have taught at several other colleges. He then taught at Harvard from 2006 to 2018. At Roger Williams University, he developed the ASL program that became a minor, the only ASL minor in the state of R.I.
He was also the ASL program director at RI School for the Deaf (2001-2009), and in 2008 opened his own school, ASL Academy, now ASL Institute LLC. With in-person classes and classes on ZOOM, we have students from all over the country.
Free and open to all. Registration not required.
