RECREATION STAFF- SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM

June 29, 2026 - August 28, 2026 (9-Week Program) / Up to 15 hours per week.

$17.00 per hour / No Benefits

Summary: Under the direction of the supervisors of the Recreation Department, the Recreation Staff Members - Summer Food Service Program Staff (SFSP) assist with the operation of the free meals program that is offered to youth and teens aged 18 and under at selected locations throughout East Providence. Meal servers will comply with program, RI Department of Health, and USDA guidelines. 

General Responsibilities: The following serve as examples of the responsibilities of the position and are not intended to be a comprehensive and limited list.

  • Completes all necessary training as required by the SFSP. 
  • Accepts food delivery and inspects for count, accuracy, and damaged meals.
  • Sets up and organizes the feeding area.
  • Distributes meals using standardized meal count forms and ensures that only complete meals are being served.
  • Reviews meal count sheets for accuracy at the end of each meal service.
  • Completes breakdown, clean up, and supply storage at the end of each meal service.
  • Orders supplies and standardized forms from SFSP Supervisor as needed.
  • Provides SFSP Supervisor daily meal counts for the following meal service.
  • Informs the SFSP Supervisor immediately of any issues/problems.
  • Assists with any Recreation Department activities with youth when needed.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Experience working with youth is preferred. 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Must be attending high school or be a high school graduate or have a GED. 
  • Must be able to work outside and physically able to meet the requirements of the job. 
  • Must pass a BCI (Background Criminal Investigation) if 18 years of age.
  • Must have a screening performed by the East Providence Police Department if under 18 years of age.
