Honoring Service, East Providence rolls out Veteran and Active Duty Banner Program

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – The City of East Providence, in collaboration with the East Providence Veterans Advisory Committee, is proud to announce the launch of our Military Banner Program.

This new initiative is designed to honor and recognize local veterans and active duty service members for their service and sacrifice.

The program will feature personalized banners displayed throughout the city, each bearing the name of a service member along with their branch of service.

“East Providence has a long and proud history of military service dating back to the Revolutionary War, Mayor Bob DaSilva said. “This program is a meaningful way for our community to recognize and thank the brave men and women who have worn the uniform and defended the great freedoms we as Americans so often take for granted.”

The banners will be prominently displayed along city streets during designated parts throughout the year, creating a powerful visual reminder of our community’s gratitude and respect for our armed service members of both past and present.

"When the Veterans Advisory Committee proposed bringing the Veteran Banner program to East Providence, I felt it was important that we also include our loved ones who are actively serving as well,” Veterans Services & Community Health Coordinator Andrea Vargas said. “I am honored to assist in the rollout of this program and help honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice as well as those who continue to fight for us today."

After completion of the application form, an employee will review the order and an invoice for $100 will be sent with information on how to make the payment.

Applications are currently being accepted until April 24, 2026.
