The East Providence Police Department is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.  We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a strong work ethic, a sense of responsibility to the community, and of high moral integrity.

Applications are being accepted May 1, 2022 through June 15, 2022

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age by June 15, 2022.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have the ability to speak, read, and write the English language.
  • Must have the ability to pass a physical examination given by a physician, a physical fitness/agility examination, a written examination, an oral examination, a swim proficiency test, a drug screen, a psychological examination given by a psychological test center, and a comprehensive background investigation.

EXAMINATION WEIGHT

60% Written

40% Oral

The minimum passing score required on both examinations shall be 70 points.

Current resident candidates may receive one point for each consecutive year that such candidate has been a resident of the City up to a maximum of five points. Veteran-candidates may receive four points or five points for a post-9/11 veteran-candidate, up to a maximum of five points.

Recruitment Timeline 2022

INFORMATIONAL SESSION

On Wednesday, June 15, 2022, the East Providence Police Department will be hosting an Informational Session beginning promptly at 6:00 p.m. at Martin Middle School - Auditorium, 111 Brown St. East Providence, RI 02914.

Please feel free to bring any family & friends. All are welcome.

This event is not mandatory to attend, but highly encouraged.

PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST

The Physical Agility Test will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022 – 9:00 a.m. at Pierce Memorial Field, 201 Mercer St., East Providence, RI 02914. In case of inclement weather, there will be an alternate test date of Monday, June 20, 2022. You will be required to bring a valid driver's license along with the following required forms: 

  • Wavier of Liability and Hold Harmless Agreement
  • Agility Test Medical Release Form

Both forms can be found on Policeapp.com when applying.

BOTH forms must be submitted on the day of the physical agility test.

Dress code for Physical Agility Test: dark shorts, white T-Shirt (no logos) and sneakers. Candidates may wear white or grey sweatshirt over T-shirt (minimal to no logos and sweat pants - navy blue or black) over shorts in case of cold weather. Candidates should be appropriately groomed.

Candidates may bring bottled water (no sports or protein drinks). Cell Phones and other electronic devices will not be permitted during the agility exam.

 

WRITTEN EXAMINATION

For those individuals who pass the Physical Agility Test, there will be a Written Exam to be held on Monday, June 20, 2022 – 6:00 p.m. at the Martin Middle School 111 Brown St., East Providence, RI 02914.

Study guide to follow. Applicants will receive the link to the exam study guide via policeapp.com.

You will be required to bring a valid driver's license. Dress Code: business casual. Masks are optional in all City buildings.

Cell phones and other electronic devices will not be allowed during the exam.

LATER IN THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS…

Oral interviews to follow after successful completion of the Physical Agility Exam and Written Exam. Tentative Oral Exam date: Week of June 20, 2022

Upon successful completion of the oral examination, candidates will have to go through a comprehensive background investigation, psychological exam, and physical.

Candidates will be eligible to receive residency and/or military points added to final score (if applicable). A total of five (5) points max combined.

Candidates who successfully complete all stages of the recruitment process will be placed on an eligibility list in order of final rank.

Final Step: RHODE ISLAND MUNICIPAL POLICE ACADEMY

**CANDIDATES FROM THIS RECRUITMENT PROCESS WILL EITHER ATTEND. THE JANUARY 2023 OR JULY 2023 ACADEMY, BASED ON FINAL RANK**
