City of East Providence cancels Council meeting, temporarily suspends East Providence Municipal and Probate Courts
EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – The City of East Providence City Council has cancelled its Council meeting and the City has suspended its Municipal and Probate Courts for the next two weeks.
The Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022 City Council meeting will be cancelled due to the continued state-wide increase of COVID-19 positive cases and members of the City Council being COVID-19 positive. The cancellation is also an attempt to #StopTheSpread. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022 at 6:30 p.m.
East Providence Probate Court is cancelled for Tuesday, January 11, 2022 and all Probate Court sessions will be suspended until January 14, 2022, under Executive Order 2022-001. The next Probate Court session will be held on January 25, 2022 at 2 p.m. Please contact the East Providence Probate Court Clerk with any questions by calling (401)-435-7500 x11037.
Also under an executive order, the City has suspended Municipal Court hearings until January 14, 2022. This impacts the Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022 and Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022 Municipal Court hearings. Letters have been sent out to all who were scheduled to appear in court during the two-week period. Please contact the East Providence Municipal Court Clerk with any questions at (401) 435-7540.

Suspension of MUNICIPAL and PROBATE COURT Sessions
WHEREAS, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect our Nation, our State, and the City of East Providence;
WHEREAS, the City of East Providence continues to coordinate a comprehensive response to ever-changing events and circumstances on a daily basis; and
WHEREAS, containing community spread of the virus is of critical importance to the long term health and safety of our residents, city employees, and others within our community; and
WHEREAS, the prevalence and transmissibility of the COVID-19 omicron variant has caused an increase in infections; and
WHEREAS, city employees have also contracted the virus further hampering the City’s ability to provide some services.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mayor Roberto L. DaSilva, by virtue of the authority vested in me as the Mayor of the City of East Providence, pursuant to the Rhode Island General Laws and the Home Rule Charter of the City of East Providence, do hereby order and direct the following:
- Effective Tuesday, January 4, 2022, all East Providence Municipal Court sessions will be suspended until January 14, 2022;
- Effective Tuesday, January 4, 2022, all East Providence Probate Court sessions will be suspended until January 14, 2022.
This Executive Order shall take effect immediately and remain in full force and effect through January 14, 2022.
