East Providence launches survey, seeks community’s input on ARPA funds

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI –The City of East Providence is seeking input from residents, businesses, community organizations, and other stakeholders on the City’s use of funding through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

The Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund (CSLFRF) will help East Providence address the negative economic consequences of the pandemic, and provide the necessary resources for a solid economic and social recovery from the pandemic.

The City’s Administration has launched a survey with the goal of acquiring input from the community on how those funds should be spent.

“We have faced a terrible pandemic,” Mayor Bob DaSilva said. “We have proven that we are resilient and we have proven that we can recover.

“Now we want to hear from our stakeholders on their ideas, their concerns, and how they see the city’s future because we are ready to rebuild,” DaSilva added. “I implore our community to join the conversation and fill out the survey.”

The survey, available here https://eastprovidenceri.gov/ARPA, is currently available to the public until August 15, 2021.

The Administration, together with East Providence City Council members and organization leaders, will also host a public community meeting to discuss the goals of ARPA and receive feedback from all stakeholders.

The goals of ARPA are to:

  • Meet immediate COVID-19 related health, economic and social challenges
  • Address long-term infrastructure and economic needs
  • Confront disparate consequences of the pandemic

The U.S. Department of Treasury has issued guidelines on how ARPA funds can, and cannot, be spent. These guidelines (ARPA’s Interim Final Rule and Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds FAQs) are available at on the City’s website https://www.eastprovidenceri.gov under the tab Transparency or by clicking https://www.eastprovidenceri.gov/ARPA
