East Providence Department of Public Works – Water Utilities Division to begin unidirectional water pipe flushing program

When:

Fall 2021 (scheduled to commence end of September 2021).

Where:

Between S. Broadway and Veterans Memorial Parkway/Water Street South of Interstate I-195 and surrounding areas.

What:

Flushing or cleaning in water distribution systems is the process of expelling water through fire hydrants to remove sediments that may have built up over time.

Why:

Hydrant flushing is performed within water distributions systems on a semi-annual basis to remove sediment build-up and improve water quality. Customers in flushing may experience discolored water and lower than normal water pressure.  Allow your cold water to run for a short time to clear lines.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Crews will perform flushing during daytime business and evening hours. Property owners should expect an orange postcard notice at least 3-5 days prior to any flushing in the respective area(s).
