EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – The City of East Providence is challenging residents to work together to make East Providence a litter-free community.
“While East Providence is so fortunate to have a number of organizations that volunteer and participate in community cleanups each year, we are challenging all of our residents to provide a helping hand in beautifying our city during a four-day community cleanup challenge -#EPTeamUp2Cleanup,” Mayor Bob DaSilva said.
The challenge: Between the dates of April 22-April 25, residents are being asked to bring a bag and gloves with them when they walk the dog, go for a jog or a bike ride and to stop and help clean up litter.
The City is offering volunteers a bundle of two trash bags and two pairs of gloves to help #EPTeamUp2Cleanup.
Here’s how it works:
Interested volunteers can pick up their supplies the week of April 19 (April 19-April 23) at the Recycling Office at 60 Commercial Way anytime from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. or at City Hall Lobby from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. And while they are there, residents may fill out an entry slip to be included in the drawing of a free composting bin.
Residents may also pick up a bundle on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Riverside Library for the Riverside Community Tree Planning with EP Urban Forest & Riverside Action Commission.
With gloves and bags in hand, residents can partner up with friends and family and pick a “Problem Litter Areas” listed below and clean up.
Have fun in the cleanup process. Take photos with #EPTeamUp2Cleanup and email the photos to eprecycle@eastprovidenceri.gov along with the number of bags you’ve filled and where the bags are located. And don’t forget to post your cleanup selfie with #EPTeamUp2Cleanup on your social media.
Once you’ve filled your bags, you have a few options:
You can either bring the bags to the marked “Earth Day” barrels located at the gates of 60 Commercial Way.
If your cleanup is along the bike path, you may leave the bags in the parking area or along the path.
If your cleanup is in a city park, you may leave the bags in the parking area of the park marked “Earth Day.”
Email eprecycle@eastprovidenceri.gov to notify them where the bags are located.

- Waterfront Drive to Tockwotton
- John W. Lewis Waterfront Park, 1 Pier Road
- Streets along I-195 (Oakley Street, School Street, Freeborn Avenue)
- East Bay Bike Path from Riverside Square to Crescent View Avenue
- East Bay Bike Path Parking areas along Veteran’s Memorial Parkway
- Watchemocket Cove – Park at Pump Station
- Squantum Woods
- Rose Garden Playground walking paths – located behind Martin Middle School
- Riverside Square
- Roger Williams Avenue (near railroad tracks/bridge/tunnel)
- Vanderland Avenue
