East Providence family business breaks ground on new development

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – Joseph Paiva, owner of The Agency Paiva, and his family, together with the City of East Providence, broke ground on a new development in East Providence on Monday.

Joseph Paiva and his family (wife Odilia, sons Nicholas and Alexander and soon-to-be daughter-in-law Katelyn Munroe), broke ground on PAIVA Plaza, which will be located at 501 Warren Ave.

The development features a 3,680-square-foot building which will be divided into three units. The anchor unit (1,600 square feet), which features a tower will be the new office for The Agency Paiva Insurance & Real Estate. The remaining two units (2,080 square feet) will be available for lease individually or combined.

“It is with great excitement that we, as a family welcome you to 501 Warren Ave. – the future office of The Agency Paiva Insurance & Real Estate and the Paiva Plaza,” Joseph Paiva said. “Our current office has served us very well for the last 25 years but I have the total confidence that the new facility will allow for much greater opportunities and provide greater conveniences for our customers in various ways.”

This is not the first expansion for family. In 1988, Paiva established The Agency Paiva at 254 Warren Ave. Five years later in 1994, he purchased a multi-family building at 194 Warren Ave. where the agency remains today.

“The Agency Paiva has been a stronghold and a fixture here in East Providence serving our community for over 33 years,” Mayor Bob DaSilva said. “We are very proud of the fact that Mr. Paiva is taking an empty lot that was doing nothing for the community and turning it into something vibrant.”

Father Jeremy Rodrigues, pastor at St. Margaret’s Church in Rumford and member of the Paiva family, provided a blessing for the family and attendees and the work that will be done and the people who will take part in it.

“Let us pray for his help during this celebration my brothers and sisters that God will bring this construction to successful completion and that his protection will keep those who work on it safe from injury,” Father Rodrigues said during the blessing.
