EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — The community is invited to participate in our upcoming LGBTQ inclusive programming at the East Providence Public Library. We are providing three programs for teen audiences via grant funding, adults also welcome.
Afro-Latinx Dance- An Embodied History

Fuller Creative Learning Center

Open to all levels, beginner dancers to advanced. The Haus of Glitter specializes in dance lineages that come from Africa and Latin America. Explore a journey through Traditional West African Dance, Afro-Caribbean Dance and LGBTQ+ Afro-Latinx dance forms like vogue and Ballroom as embodied history, civil rights advocacy, gender affirming care and community wellness practice. Come prepared to strut and explore the transformative power of dance as embodied history + herstory!
How has (Queer) Afro-Latinx Dance always been a form of wellness, resistance & care-centered practice? What insight can West African Dance, Latin Dance, Afro-Caribbean Dance, Breaking/Hip Hop & Vogue/Ballroom offer us to rehearse for revolution?

Drag 101

Open to all dance levels, beginner and experienced, this program will cover the history and cultural significance of drag, and interactively explore the basics of drag performance. In the style of HBO’s “We're Here", Haus of Glitter presenters will highlight visibility, community, and the joys of self-expression. Q&A time and more!

LGBTQ 101

Teens in grades 6-12 are welcome to RI Youth Pride's LGBTQ 101 program! Topics covered will be the history and persecution of the LGBTQ community, this fight for equal rights, acronyms and difference between gender and sexuality, as well as various terminology. Whether a member of the LGBTQ community, or an ally who wants to learn more about our LGBTQ friends and neighbors, join us!
