National Competition “snow” problem for East Providence DPW team

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI- The City of East Providence sent Department of Public Works employees Joe Sullivan and Corey Pena to Loveland, Colo. for the 2024 American Public Works Association National Snow Roadeo competition.

The ‘American Public Works Association National Snow Roadeo’ holds a state and nationwide competition, with several competitions related to snowplow safety and technical skills. Professionals from across the nation go to compete each year to showcase their skills in keeping our communities safe during snow and ice events.

This year, East Providence DPW employees Sullivan and Pena came in 5th overall and placed 1st in the road maneuver course.

To qualify for the event, Sullivan and Pena placed 2nd in the Rhode Island Public Works Association snowplow competition, qualifying for the New England Regional where they again placed 2nd.

“Mr. Sullivan and Pena highlight the skilled workers we have throughout the City of East Providence,” Mayor Bob DaSilva said. “I’m not only proud to have them on our team but am impressed that they went head-to-head with those who deal with dozens of feet more of snow annually and came out victorious.”
