East Providence police teams with US Drug Enforcement Administration for 2023 National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI On Saturday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the East Providence Police Department, the City of East Providence, the East Providence Prevention Coalition (EPPC), and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will host DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day at locations across the country. DEA and its partners will collect tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs.

For more than a decade, the event has helped Americans easily rid their homes of unneeded medications—those that are old, unwanted, or expired—that too often become a gateway to addiction and can contribute to overdose fatalities.

The service is safe, free, confidential, anonymous, environmentally friendly, and most importantly could save a life.

WHAT: National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

WHEN: Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time

WHO: East Providence Police Department

WHERE: 750 Waterman Ave. East Providence, RI 02914

In partnership with local law enforcement, Take Back Day has removed more than 8,300 tons of medication from circulation since its inception.

Collection sites will not accept syringes, sharps, and illicit drugs. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container. The cap must be tightly sealed to prevent leakage.

In addition to preventing overdose deaths, the Take Back Day initiative addresses the vital public safety and public health issue of prescription drug addiction and just one of many ways the DEA, the East Providence Police Dept. and the EPPC is working to reduce addiction, prevent overdose deaths and address the opioid epidemic.
