East Providence DPW sponsors Earth Day cleanup

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – The City of East Providence Department of Public Works Refuse/Recycling Program is sponsoring Earth Day neighborhood cleanups and beautification projects throughout the city during the months of April and May in celebration of Earth Day.

Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corp. (RIRRC) will once again be waiving disposal (tipping) fees on solid waste for the city’s organized/registered groups involved in Earth Day-related cleanup efforts from now until June 3, 2023. These cleanups will collectively be eligible for a tip fee waiver of 10 tons (maximum). This tonnage will not count against the municipality’s Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) cap. City crews will collect the debris after cleanups and transport material to the RIRRC.

If you have a Scout or neighborhood group that is interested in volunteering and registering for Earth Day cleanup projects or would like additional information, please contact Donna McMahon, DPW, Refuse/Recycling Program Coordinator at 401-435-7710 or via email at dmcmahon@eastprovidenceri.gov. Registered groups receive yard bags for cleanups and work gloves (while supplies last).

Students needing community service hours are also encouraged to volunteer. Funding for Earth Day cleanup supplies are made possible through a Narragansett Bay Commission grant. Below is a list of the Earth Day projects. The City of East Providence would like to thank these groups for their continued effort in keeping our city’s shoreline and public areas clean of debris and litter.
