City of East Providence in partnership with American Legion announces 2021 Memorial Day Parade

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – The American Legion Riverside Post 10, together with the City of East Providence, has joined together to plan the 2021 Memorial Day Parade in honor of our deceased veterans.

The City has been in communication with state officials and has received further clarification from the state in regards to hosting a safe Memorial Day Parade so that we may honor our fallen veterans.

“The American Legion has been working with our members and the Mayor’s Office over the last several weeks to determine the best and safest way to accommodate our members during the 2021 Memorial Day Parade while also honoring the memories of our of our fallen,” American Legion Riverside Post 10 Commander Bob Winston said. “We look forward to joining our members and making this a special Memorial Day Parade.”

“It gives me great honor and pleasure to be able to work with the American Legion on hosting our annual Memorial Day Parade – honoring and mourning our military personnel who have died in the line of duty while serving in the United States Armed Forces is so important to our administration, our community and the families and loved ones of our veterans,” Mayor Bob DaSilva said.

The City and Legion will host a hybrid parade barring any changes in Centers for Diseases and Prevention (CDC) and Rhode Island Dept. of Health guidelines.

Staging area for the vehicle procession will be at the Looff Carousel and we are asking everyone who will have a vehicle in the procession to please meet at 8:30 a.m. The vehicle procession will take off at 9 a.m. and follow the same route as last year stopping at all of the War Memorials to pay respect to our veterans. The motorcade will continue back to Riverside and join with the marching contingents at Bullocks Point and Lincoln Avenue.

Separately, those interested in the walking portion of the parade are asked to meet at 10:30 a.m. at the Carousel and begin to march toward the American Legion where they will be filtered in with the vehicle procession at the area of Bullocks Point Avenue and Lincoln Avenue.

For those interested in participating in the 2021 Memorial Day Parade, please fill out the registration form below. We are also asking those interested in having a float in the parade to please include as many details about the float in the form. All registration information will be provided to the American Legion for planning purposes.
