EAST PROVIDENCE, RI –The Center for Tech and Civic Life, a nonprofit organization which includes a team of researchers, election administration, data experts and civic technologists, has awarded the city of East Providence Canvassing Office with a $25,000 grant.

The COVID-19 Response Grant, a regrant of funds to local jurisdictions made possible via $250 million committed to CTCL by Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg, will enable the Canvassing Department to help ensure that the department has the staffing, training and equipment necessary for every eligible voter to participate in a safe and timely way and have their vote counted.

“We were thrilled to hear that we were awarded the grant,” Canvassing Office Administrator Leslie Shattuck-Moore said. “These funds will help with staff needs and will help ensure a clean and safe place for our voters during this pandemic.”

“The City is thankful to the CTCL for its focus on ensuring a smooth and safe election amidst this COVID-19 pandemic, which has negatively impacted our City and the rest of the world,” Mayor Bob DaSilva said. “These funds will assist with our Canvassing Office’s needs as they prepare for and assist residents with the 2020 election.”
