East Providence police investigate fatal pedestrian/motor vehicle crash

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – On August 6, 2020 at 10:18 a.m., East Providence police were dispatched to the Wampanoag Trail just south of the intersection with Forbes Street for a bicyclist who was struck by a motor vehicle.
Responding officers located the bicyclist who suffered severe injuries. Officers began CPR on the cyclist. The East Providence Fire Department arrived on scene and took over life-saving measures. The bicyclist was subsequently transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The victim is identified as Anthony Lozito, 81 of East Providence.
The initial investigation showed that both the motor vehicle and the bicyclist were traveling south on the Wampanoag Trail. The front end of the motor vehicle struck the rear tire of the bicycle. The operator of the motor vehicle stopped at the scene and was not injured. The motorist is cooperating with the investigation.
The East Providence Police Traffic Unit has been assigned to investigate and reconstruct the crash.
