City to host 2nd annual Mayor’s Youth Summer Police & Fire Academy
EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – The City of East Providence, together with the East Bay Community Action Program, is seeking participants for its second annual Mayor’s Youth Summer Police & Fire Academy.
“We had such great success with our pilot academy in 2019, where participants gained first-hand knowledge of our local police and fire departments’ operations that we decided to make this an annual academy,” Mayor Bob DaSilva said. “We are encouraging all people between the ages of 14 and 24 to participate in this amazing opportunity.”
The 2020 Mayor’s Youth Summer Police & Fire Academy will host 15 participants and will be held at Phillips Street Hall, located at 51 North Phillips St. East Providence.
The academy will be held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning on Monday, July 20, and will conclude on Wednesday, August 19. Each participant will receive a $200 stipend for their participation in the academy.
“The East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) is proud to implement the second annual Mayor’s Police and Fire Academy,” said Dennis Roy, EBCAP CEO. “This program helps youth gain exposure to the fields of law enforcement and fire science, while also developing employability and leadership skills.”

Due to the pandemic and state and local guidelines, participants should note that academy training topics and schedule is subject to change. Also, participants will be required to wear a mask during the academy. Masks will be provided to each participant.
Interested youth who would like to register or learn more about the program, should email summerjobs2020@ebcap.org.
