Closing of Libraries and Senior Center
WHEREAS, The City of East Providence prioritizes the safety of its community during this
Pandemic involving the COVID-19 virus; and
WHEREAS, Evidence shows that certain people are at higher risk of contracting this virus;
and
WHEREAS, High risk individuals include older adults, those with chronic medical
conditions, those who suffer from repertory illnesses, or autoimmune diseases; and
WHEREAS, Governor Gina Raimondo has declared a state of emergency and
recommended that large groups of people should not gather in one place; and
WHEREAS, The City of East Providence strongly recommends that individuals should not
gather in groups larger than 100 people.
NOW, THEREFORE, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of East Providence,
it is hereby ordered:
Section 1 Libraries
All Libraries within the City of East Providence shall be closed to the public until
further notice, including:
(a) Weaver Library
(b) Riverside Library
(c) Fuller Creative Learning Center
Section 2: Senior/Recreation Center:
The Robert E. Rock Senior Center, otherwise known as the East Providence
Senior Center shall be closed until further notice, and all recreation programs
and activities at said facility shall be cancelled until further notice.
Section 3: Effective Date: This order shall take effect immediately.
