Veterans Services & Community Health Coordinator

Andrea Vargas, is the city's Veterans Services & Community Health Coordinator. Under the supervision of the Office of the Mayor, Vargas will provide services related to the support of Veterans of the United States Armed Services and services related to alcohol and drug addiction. In these capacities, the Veterans’ Services and Community Health Coordinator provides program development, project management, and fiscal oversight of settlement funds, and engages with members of the public to provide support and assistance.

Prior to taking on this role, Vargas, who was appointed constituent affairs coordinator in November 2020, oversaw all constituent questions and concerns by working as the liaison between the City and the constituent to achieve quick solutions to everyone’s needs. As a lifelong East Providence resident, Vargas prides herself in helping those who live alongside her in the city.

Before joining the administration, Vargas worked as the communications intern at Seedbox Digital in Boston, Mass. Vargas also worked part time with the comedy group, The Portuguese Kids as a customer service rep.

When she's not at City Hall, you can find her sharing her love for performing arts serving as the resident Music Director and Voice Teacher at JDP Theatre Co. in Rumford.

Vargas graduated East Providence High School in 2015 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in media communication and musical theatre at Rhode Island College in May 2020. During her time at RIC, Vargas was the first female recipient of the Lin Manuel Miranda Family Foundation Scholarship where she is currently a fellowship member and continues work closely with the Miranda family.
