City Solicitor, Michael J. Marcello

Michael J. Marcello was appointed city solicitor of the City of East Providence in January 2018 and oversees the City's law department. Marcello handles issues related to municipal law, labor and employment, planning and zoning as well as negotiating labor contracts with public safety and municipal unions. He previously served as the city solicitor for the City of Woonsocket.

A partner in the Providence office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the General Liability Practice, Marcello has handled a variety of litigated matters including products liability, legal and accounting malpractice, insurance coverage, asbestos/toxic torts and property loss claims. A practicing attorney for more than 24 years, Marcello has served as trial counsel in Rhode Island state and federal courts, as well as participated in numerous alternative dispute resolution forums including arbitrations and meditations.

HA graduate of Colby College and the American University’s Washington College of Law, Marcello also served as a local and state elected official for the Town of Scituate. He was elected as Scituate Town Councilor in 2020 and will begin his term in January 2021.
