            Any person who submits a communication to the Council and wishes to speak on it must indicate this in writing no later than 4:00 p.m. the Thursday prior to the next regularly scheduled Council meeting.  A person who lists more than one topic on their communication will be allowed to speak on the first one listed.

 

X.        PUBLIC COMMENT

            All persons wishing to make public comment shall sign a public comment sheet stating their name, address and the subject of their comments.  Each speaker will be limited to three (3) minutes.  The order of speakers will be on a first come, first serve basis and the maximum time for public comment shall by limited to thirty (30) minutes per meeting.

1. Potential increase to the DPW budget of $225,000, to fund three new laborer positions in Parks and Recreation – Councilman Cahoon - Discussion and preliminary vote

 

2. Potential increase to the capital budget of $50,000 to fund painting and repairs to the trim and cupola of the Weaver Library –  Councilman Cahoon - Discussion and preliminary vote

 
3. Potential increase to the capital budget of $50,000 to support installation of a permanent batting cage pad at Pierce Memorial Park, similar to the others installed (or being installed) throughout the city’s baseball fields – Councilman Cahoon - Discussion and preliminary vote

XIII.    PUBLIC HEARINGS – Ordinance for second passage - For discussion and possible vote

 

            A. First and Final Passage

           

1. Ordinance of the Council of the City of East Providence appropriating $150,000 for the support of Crescent park Looff Carousel and facilities as well as $225,000 for the completion of the accompanying concession facility

Summary: The purpose of this Ordinance is to allocate Three Hundred and Seventy Five Thousand Dollars ($375,000) of the remaining unencumbered and unallocated Capital Budget to the Carousel following Capital Projects: One hundred and Fifty Thousand Dollars ($150,000) towards Enhancements to Crescent Park and/or the stabilization of the Looff Carousel and/or Facilities related and supportive thereto; and Two-Hundred and Twenty-Five Thousand Dollars ($225,000) towards improvements related to concession or food related infrastructure or buildings.

a. Meredith Bonds-Harmon – Acting library director was appointed new director, East Providence Library. Meredith has been with the East Providence Public Library for 16 years and before that, the library at the Flanagan campus of Community College of Rhode Island and the Seekonk Public Library
