Robert Britto, now in his third term in office, serves as the City’s Ward 1 representative and in his role as Council President presides over East Providence City Council meetings.
An East Providence resident for more than 23 years, Britto is focused on a number of initiatives including traffic control improvements, enhancing East Providence’s waterfront for future growth and working with community leaders for continued diversity.
In addition to serving East Providence residents, Britto works as a Design & Construction Specialist at Rhode Island Housing and Mortgage Finance Corp., an agency that works to ensure that all people who live and work in Rhode Island can afford a healthy and attractive home.
Prior to joining RIH, he was retail project manager with Alex & Ani, an assistant project manager with Michael’s Corp., and a self-employed general contractor/ founder of Four I’s Contracting.
Britto has been involved in community sports and activities both in his native Providence and since moving to East Providence.
Britto was very involved with the Fox Point Boys and Girls Club in Providence and served 10 years as president of its Alumni Association. He is a former board member of the Fox Point Senior Citizens Center and was one of 20 individuals selected to the Pew Charitable Trust Civic Entrepreneur initiative.
Britto, 57, who lives with his wife and four children in Rumford, hosts annual community events including the Rumford Tree Lighting and annual Holiday Festival.
He attended Stonehill College where he studied international business.
