Acting Library Director, Joyce May

Joyce May was appointed acting library director in August 2020. Having built a robust adult program schedule recognized throughout the state, May took on administrative duties to best serve the community through collaborations and partnerships with many organizations.

During her 18-year career with the City of East Providence, May has served as adult services librarian, assistant director and acting director for the East Providence Public Library system, which includes Weaver Library, Riverside Branch and the Fuller Creative Learning Center.

In 2014, she founded the Weaver Library Farmers’ Market, a seasonal event that attracts thousands annually. She is currently on the Board of the East Providence Prevention Coalition and the East Providence Library Foundation. A lifelong Rhode Islander, May is happiest at the beach with a book in her hands.

May has a Bachelor of Arts from Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio. Prior to earning her Masters in Library and Information Sciences from the University of Rhode Island in 2002, May worked as Project Manager for the research firm Reilly Associates of New York.
